Culling and Curating

I am moving, from a 5 bedroom house to a little 2 bedroom unit. That's a huge leap of a downsize. I'm currently going through the daunting task of culling my wardrobe. (I have already 3 garbage bags full of clothes ready to go to the Salvation Army bin.)


I'm so glad society has moved on. Those with massive wardrobes with every potential shoe and shirt combination, used to belong to the fashionistas, and be the envy of others. Not anymore. With fast fashion today (thanks to ZARA and H&M), anyone can have an overflowing wardrobe, and do it cheaply too. A small wardrobe is the now the hallmark of the modern fashionista. You see, to have a small wardrobe and still look stylish, requires you to actually have a sense of style. It requires you to really understand fashion, i.e. you have to be able to pull out of your butt several looks from one button-up shirt or a pencil skirt. A real fashionable wardrobe is about high-quality foundation pieces and versatile staples that work, often together, effortlessly.


I'm at the (if I may say so, mature, because I'm turning 23 in a few days) stage where I'm ready to indulge in 'the new luxury' of a refined and curated wardrobe. And once I have it organised, it'll make me contemplate and consider every single future purchases. No more compulsive-shopping! No more being broke because I splurged on something I'll only wear once! Yay, to my new mature, curated wardrobe!

Monthly Recap: April '11

Currently obsessed with:
Ryan Higa. Any boy that can make me laugh like that, deserves my attention.
Macarons. Yes, the obsession continues. Tried new flavours this month; black sesame and peanut butter.
Skin already showing signs of fatigue and aging.
Trying to tick off the first and easiest thing on my bucket list, but ain't easy considering I have thinning hair.

Laundry list of things memorable about the month:
Weddings, weddings, birthdays, graduations, graduations, graduations, baby showers and birthdays.
And of course, the Royal Wedding.
Bowling night.
Party, dressed up in school uniforms, gifts and blessings to two yummy mummies.
The most amazing Easter weekend ever. Like, wow.
Best camp experience ever. We will never be the same.
Sleeping only 11 hours across 3 days.
Taking a 14 hour nap and waking up in the evening.
Opening of ZARA's flagship store affecting sales at work.

ZARA Look Book, April 2011

ZARA picks up all the right trends for the collection, with vibrant colour-blocking, 70's sophisticate, and my favourite, orange lipstick! P.S I worked for ZARA for three days, and was quite disappointed in its quality. That is all.

Obsession Du Jour: Capes

When you crave muffins, all you see are muffins. I'm obsessed with capes. And all I see on the street, online, in magazines, in boutiques are, oui! Capes!

ZARA Down Under

ZARA and H&M: Coming to an Australian High Street Near You
Hold on to your credit cards! The super fashionable, super successful Spanish retailer is set to open in Melbourne or Sydney by 2011 according to reports. ZARA is probably the number one success story in their category, in women's fashion, for at least a decade. I would predict that in Australia, they will have the same success. When ZARA opened a store in China last year, apparently it just murdered everything around it! Local fashion retailers will need to prepare themselves for the new competition. H&M is also expected to announce the opening of their first store down under, and the southern hemisphere. ZARA and H&M's arrival is expected to threaten Australia's Country Road, Witchery, and CUE. It will only be a matter of time before TopShop and Banana Republic follow! How exciting! It's brilliant news for frustrated shoppers like you and me tired of paying too much for inferior clothes by some poor Australia high street brands. It's what my girlfriends and I complain about too many times before thinking about racking up expensive air miles to New York city or Hong Kong, just for the sole purpose of shopping for affordable and gorgeous clothes.
