It's about time. It's definitely not a 'True Blood' cover, and I mean that as a good thing! And fresh off a Best Drama Emmy, Mad Men is scorching hot right now. And so is the cover that features Elisabeth Moss, January Jones, Jon Hamm and Christina Hendricks. (But hey, is it just me or do they look strangely different? Must be photoshop.) Another (for me a more worthy) reason to pick up the latest Rollings Stones magazine is the beautiful, black and white series of behind-the-scenes photographs from the filming of season four. So worth it for the glimpse of 60s fashion wardrobe heaven! Sweet!

Muse: Betty Draper, Mad Men

With so much 50s and 60s femininity going around in the September issues, we're in danger of being caught up in a whirlpool of similarity. But it's no great accident thata resurgence in early '60s fashion has coincided with the popularity of Mad Men. Guaranteed, there will be many more posts with this title. But, I love Betty Draper's classic style, and am single-handedly trying to bring into my wardrobe peddle-pushers, shirt dresses cinched with a belt, high-waisted skirts, high-waisted pants, full skirts, feminine blouses, pencil skirts, polka dots and red lipstick. She is always exquisitely dressed, coiffed and groomed, the spitting image of well-to-do suburban life. January Jones slips seamlessly into Betty's shoes, and also her look.Like Grace Kelly, her style is timeless and elegant.

Style Muse: Grease

How can you not watch this movie and not want high-waisted full skirts? Other drool-worthy pieces include cat-eye glasses, cropped halter-neck top, the fabulous all-black off-shoulder outfit worn by Sandy, and did you see those red clogs she had on in the finale? I'm excited about the 50's redux in fashion trends I talked about in earlier posts. Sweet Sandy or Sexy Sandy, both looks will be huge this coming season. 

Checklist for the New and Improved Me

• read more
• sketch more
• public speaking
• always hunting and gathering inspiration
• always carry a diary
• be more acquainted with articles, journals, news, opinions, prints, digital, web, video, film etc.
• stop reading for pleasure (don't think I will have time anyway)
• cease communicating normally - speak like a designer
• become a 50's housewife, minus the housework and husband (organised, multi-tasking, perfectionist, determined, high-maintenance, well-groomed, and merry)
• work on building character - patience, gentleness, love, faithfulness, goodness, joy, self-control, peace, kindness
• no eating after 10pm
• try to blink less. At least try. If I can remember.
• stop staring at the back of the head of that extremely good looking jerk during lecture and pay attention.
• eat fruit more. Once a month isn't enough.
