Chic Easy Pieces: Harpers Bazaar US November 2010

It's so hard to resist from posting winter editorials when I should be focusing on the fact that the warmth of spring is finally here. It was actually almost sweltering today. However, I think well executed editorials can always be appreciated and filed away for six months time. Oh, but as for me, I will be flying to the northern hemisphere quite soon. So I've been needing inspiration for my travel wardrobe, focusing on comfort.

I Never Told You

Very often and ever since I can remember, I've found myself pairing songs with my mood, moments and situations in my life. To me, songs mean much more, they mark moments in my life, memories and the people I have shared them with. There is indeed soundtracks to my life. Today I played this song on repeat. I just couldn't help it.
I miss those blue eyes, how you kiss me at night
I miss the way we sleep
Like there's no sunrise, like the taste of your smile
I miss the way we breathe

But I never told you, what I should have said
No, I never told you, I just held it in

And now, I miss everything about you
I can't believe I still want you
And after all the things we've been through
I miss everything about you
Without you

I see your blue eyes, every time I close mine
You make it hard to see
Where I belong to, when I'm not around you
It's like I'm not with me

But I never told you, what I should have said
No, I never told you, I just held it in

And now, I miss everything about you (still, you're gone)
I can't believe I still want you (I never should've walked away)
After all the things we've been through
I miss everything about you
Without you

Neutral Territory

Camels, Coppers, Olives, Khaki, Taupe, Tan and Ochres. Timeless, classic, inoffensive colours.  It's only been these last seasons that I have begun to love wearing these essential hues. It is rather more interesting that a monochromatic outfit. Deftly blending multiple shades of khaki, taupe, and tan to create nuanced outfits, is an Art.
The runway origins of this neutral trend are vast, so it's impossible to narrow it down to a single, definitive example. That said, I do have my favourites! For inspiration purposes, check out the Burberry Prorsum, Celine, Stella McCartney, and Chloe 2010 shows. Neutral and minimal.

Summer clearly invented Romance

"If a June night could talk, it would probably boast it invented romance."
Bern Williams
It's been raining bucket-loads since last night. And the air is chilly considering it is Spring. In two days, I get my life back, marking the beginning of my holidays. I'm yearning for summer sunshine.
But, Summer is on its way which means several things:
I will jump on beds every morning because I can. (Not, my bed, no. My brother's bed.)
I will be tan again.
I will be reading a LOT.
I will be practicing my guitar.
I will watch the rest of Mad Men season 3.
I will start a new TV series.
I will make banana milkshakes every other day.
I will lay out underneath the stars.
I will make pancakes at midnight.
I will go on long evening walks with mummy.
I will be writing love letters to all my friends.
I will clean out my 'floor-drobe', if I get around to it. (Will probably find my missing T-shirts and shirts)
I will catch up with those people I've neglected during my "all work and no play" period.
And if that doesn't work out (and the weather is wet), I will build little forts in my bedroom and travel to France.

I swear, Sasha Pivovarova is a chameleon. J'adore. Also, the little girl does a beautiful job too.

Muse: Carey Mulligan

Carey Mulligan is a sartorial inspiration, always looking demure with a low key, somewhat old-fashioned charm. I love it that she is a fan of endearingly prim dresses and longer lengths. I want to think we share the same style.

Springing into Spring

The last of the cooler weather is still stubbornly remaining, even though it's meant to be spring now. Too regular appearances of icy winds and rain that we know so well mean that although a spring aesthetic is appealing, the reality is a little different As it's end of semester (1 and a half weeks left for me in fact!), I haven't the energy or the time for anything borderline-impractical. Instead, at the moment, it's all about function and ease. Outfits that will hold up over the course of a long day. They also need to be something I can get my head around at 6am in the mornings. I'm sure many of you are in the same boat at the moment, so I thought I'd share some editorial inspiration that is of a similar aesthetic to sartorial life at the moment.

Dear...

Dear sky-diving instructor,
My elation multiplied when I found out you were to be my instructor. You are too lion-hearted. I don't know what was more exciting; free falling off a plane at over 4000 feet, or having you jump off with me. Today my stalker tendencies kicked in and I googled you up. You're from California, and have been professionally sky-diving for 9 years? You were 2nd place at the Australian national championship. And you jumped off the Twin Falls bridge? A-ma-zing!

Dear gracious girl and gentleman who returned my lost wallet,
Thank you! I had $150 cash in there today.

Dear Halfy,
Keep doing what you do. Whether you know it or not, you affect those around you. You inspire me and encourage me and challenge me to prioritise relationships and friendships.

Dear extremely good-looking boy,
Why do you have to wear that cap? I don't think I admire guys in caps. There's a thousand other handsome options out there to complete an outfit: fedoras, bowlers, boaters, trilbies, toppers, etc. Lose the cap, please.

Dear Facebook,
Thanks a lot. I didn't do anything for the past 3 hours.

Dear future husband,
I had to renew my passport, so today I took my passport photo for the one thousandth time, and the one they accept is the one I look 50 years old with my eyes half-closed. I'm so mad. This passport expires in 10 years! I decided I am never going to show my passport to anybody. Never. Yes, not even you.

Dear world,
I am in you, but not part of you. Let's not get confused.

Obsession du Jour: Charles Anastase

You know that moment, when you fall for someone, when they're only thing you think about? When you're so smitten about that person, you find yourself steering conversations in a particular direction, just so you can say you have an excuse to talk about him?  Sure, it's a bit annoying to those around you, but even the bitterest hearts will melt in the face of such insane amounts of infatuation. No, I'm not talking about Extremely good-looking boy! It isn't a person per se. It's Charles Anastase Spring 2011.

Octobre Inspirations

A handful of designers (Louis Vuitton, Karen Walker, Marc Jacobs, Celine, Proenza Schouler, and recently Dsquared2) are inspiring my personal wardrobe choices. I love how the fashion tide is towards polished lady-like looks. It's very grown up and chic. I'm incorporating this trend into my wardrobe via button up shirts, pleated skirts, boyfriend blazers, and girly stack heels. I'm also crazy about animal print accents; a hint of leopard is the ideal way to freshen up classic staples and make them feel current again. All in all, I'm incredibly excited.

I've been needing a new handbag for so long (I've been using my Veronika Maine black leather and chain handbag for every occasion, both appropriate and inappropriate). I want a replacement that is so far from what handbags have become expected be. Something minimal to the extreme, like this Chloe beauty.

I am 23, going on 13

This has almost nothing to do with the Sound of Music. Let me just say that apparently I’m 30 going on 13. I don’t know what happened bu...
